    • Evidence of your teacher registration or, if currently studying, evidence of your enrolment in an accredited initial teacher education course.
    • Copies of your final transcripts or additional qualifications (if completed).

    Submit: To lodge your application, click submit within the declaration tab. You will receive a confirmation email with a unique reference number and a copy of your application once it is successfully lodged.

    • Permanent and temporary classroom teacher applicants 
    • Applicants will need to provide:

      • A maximum three-page statement outlining how your practical experience aligns with the seven Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Standards (Australian Professional Standards for Teachers). To assist you, refer to the Applicant Pack.
      • If you are an international teacher applicant, evidence of your AITSL Skills Assessment and/or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Assessment.
      • Two teaching referees from the past 5 years. At least one referee must be a current or former supervisor.

      The mechanism to transfer between schools for permanent Classroom Teachers is the Annual Classroom Teacher Transfer Round. Find out more by accessing the Education Staff Service Portal.


      Note: If you are a graduating Pre-service teacher and have not yet received your final academic transcript, please apply for the Pre-service Teacher Pathway Program.

    • Casual classroom teacher applicants 
    • Applicants will need to provide:

      • A statement, up to two pages, addressing the Casual Teacher Selection Criteria.
      • A minimum of one completed referee report however two is preferable, one from your current or most recent supervisor.

      Note: Referee reports are not required to be completed by teaching-specific employers and can be provided by employers from non-educational industries. 

      Selection may be based on application and referee report only.

    • Pre-service Teacher Program applicants 
    • Applicants will need to provide:

      • A statement, up to two pages, outlining how your practicum experience strives to meet the seven AITSL Standards (Australian Professional Standards for Teachers). To assist you, refer to the Applicant Pack.
      • Two assessment reports from your most recent practicum placements.

  • Our Pre-service Teacher Program is an employment-based pathway for third-year and fourth-year students completing an initial teacher education (ITE) course. 

    Pre-service teachers from the following universities can commence teaching on a Restricted Permit to Teach once minimum course requirements have been satisfied:

    • Australian Catholic University
    • Charles Sturt University
    • University of Canberra
    • Swinburne University
    • Charles Darwin University 

    All pre-service teachers from Australian universities nation-wide can commence teaching on an Unrestricted Permit to Teach once course requirements are met. Ask your tertiary education provider for more information.

    Teaching and all Tertiary Qualifications (include current and anticipated date of completion).
  • Note: To be eligible to be employed as a teacher in an ACT public school applicants must have a suitable four year full-time tertiary education qualification. Applicants with qualifications gained outside of Australia seeking a working visa should complete a skills assessment by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). This will confirm if you have the required qualifications and English language proficiency to teach in Australian schools. Detailed information is available from the AITSL website.
