    For permanent, temporary and casual school assistant applicants:

    • A written application of no more than three pages addressing the selection questions for each support area. If applying for school assistant roles across multiple support areas, a written application must be provided addressing the specific questions for each support area.
    • Contact details of one referee, however two is preferable, from your current or most recent supervisor.

    Multiple files can be uploaded but must not exceed 10MB per file. Documents uploaded must be in PDF (.pdf) or Microsoft Word formats (.docx, .doc or .rtf). This application form can be saved to draft and completed later by clicking the Save and Close button You will receive a unique reference code for re-accessing.

  • Below is a list of School Assistant roles within the ACT Education Directorate. Please select any roles that you wish to apply for.

    One written response per functional stream.  Applicants can select one or all positions in that stream. A new written statement will be required for each functional stream.

    Where an applicant selects multiple positions to apply for in a stream, applicants will be assessed against the highest classification and could be found suitable for all roles or found suitable for a specific classification against a scoring matrix.

      • performing customer service tasks such as reception duties, attending to school visitors, parents/carers, staff and students, and respond to routine enquiries
      • coordinate school staff relief and associated processes
        participating in the planning and coordination of school events such as student excursions, open nights and parent teacher interviews
      • maintaining a clean and safe work environment for students and staff

      • providing specialist hearing, vision or bilingual support to students.

      • monitoring student behaviour in learning environments and identify strategies to support students to fulfill their potential.

      Role

      Roles within the Technical/Professional stream provide advice to teachers on a range of technical on food and materials for practical lessons, technical and procedural on safe operation of machinery provide support to teachers and students who have intellectual and/or physical disabilities in classroom activities and may include:

      • assisting in the operations of a food/hospitality or a technology/industrial arts program
      • coordinating the operation of ICT including maintenance of the school network and installation of equipment
      • operation of a school library
      • applying technical knowledge and support to teachers and students in the implementation of educational programs
      • coordinating the operations of a science laboratory including the safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and equipment
      • Maintain a clean and safe working environment for students and staff in accordance with workplace health and safety standards and procedures.

      • Monitoring students’ achievements and behaviours in learning environments and identify strategies to support students to fulfil their potential.
      • Identifying, evaluating and providing recommendations and guidance to students on appropriate community-based services to support student connectedness and engagement.
